The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP), formed in 1926, is a 600-member non-profit trade association. VACP members include active and retired federal, state, local and private law enforcement and criminal justice agency executives, administrators and managers. Members also include persons in law enforcement related businesses, support industries or government agencies.

2008 Checkpoint Strikeforce Kickoff : (August 21, 2008) MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine today launched the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign in Mechanicsville, Virginia — a statewide initiative combining enforcement and education efforts to raise public awareness of drunk driving. The 2008 campaign, launches on the eve of a regional initiative targeting impaired driving on rural roadways. Virginia is represented in the initiative with more than 92 state and local law enforcement agencies participating across the state. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over half (55-percent) of the nation’s 2006 traffic fatalities occurred on rural roads. Last year in Virginia, 51-percent of the alcohol-related fatalities occurred on rural roads, according to Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles data. (More...) Photographer: Bob Wall, VACP

2008 VACP A/C: Valor Awards Banquet & Board Installation : The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police on August 19, 2008 presented eight Virginia police officers from five agencies with the Association’s highest honor, the Award for Valor. The awards were presented at the Valor Awards Banquet at the annual conference of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, held this year in Hot Springs, Virginia. The Award for Valor recognizes a law enforcement officer who, in the line of duty, performs an act of extraordinary heroism while engaged with an adversary at imminent personal risk. The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement also was presented to The Honorable John L. Brownlee, former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. Additionally, 2007-2008 VACP President Chief Ray Lavinder, Roanoke Co. Police Department, presented Roanoke Chief Joe Gaskins with the VACP President's Award and the 2008-2009 VACP Executive Board was installed.
